Wine description: The 7th Century estate of Chateau Couhins is located in the heart of the Pessac-Leognon Appellation and in the 1950’s its reputation was such, that the white wine was awarded Grand Cru Classe Status.
In 1968 the property was purchased by the Institut National de la Research Agronomique (INRA), one of the foremost agricultural reaserch facilities in the world, especially in the field of sustainable farming.Couhins la Gravette is the 2nd wine of the property and made in exactly the same way as the Grand Vin. Produced from 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc & 3% Petit Verdot, the wine displays a dark ruby garnet colour, on the nose there are ripe berry fruits with some smoky hints, in the mouth the wine is quite soft and round with a nice balance of acidity, a generous wine, but also elegant and silky smooth.
